Pancole Sanctuary
Pancole diocesan sanctuary is located 5 km from San Gimignano, on the ancient road towards Certaldo, in a quiet area immersed in nature. In the same place where now the sanctuary is situated, there was a little temple where Pier Francesco Fiorentino (1444-1497) painted the Virgin Mary breast-feeding the Holy Baby.
 
 
During the centuries the roof of the little temple collapsed and was completely covered by bushes. In 1668, a period of drought for valdelsa region, the Virgin May appeared to Bartolomea Ghini, a young deaf-and-dumb shepherdess and promised her that she would have found all she needed at home. After this apparition Bartolomea was no longer deaf of mute and at home she found flour, wine and oil.
This was the first miracle of the Virgin Mary of Pancole.

The little temple was discovered under the bushes and while cutting them the image was scratched: this sign is still visible in the painting on Virgin Mary's face. A lot of pilgrims arrived to venerate the Holy image and with their contribution the first Sanctuary of Pancole was built in 1670. during the 2nd World War the Church was bombed but luckily the Holy image was not destroyed.

The church was rebuilt and completed in 1949.

Every day from 9:00 to 12:30 an from 16:00 to 19:00.
Monday morning closed.
HOLY MASS:
Summer time: 18:00 (working days) - 9:00-11:00-18:00 (holiday)
Winter time: 17:30 (working days) - 9:00-11:00-17:30 (holiday)

Every day, half an hour before the celebration of the afternoon Mass it is possible to take part in the rosary.
